just installed the os on my old machine. no problems yet. I need to learn what and how to work it. I used a computer while traveling and was running linex and I was impressed. Is there a shell that will do what explore in windows does?. I’m kind of lost without it.

thanks for this page, it is helpful

I'm glad you're enjoying GNU/Linux so far, and I'm glad you find this site helpful! If you're looking for a GUI shell that does what Explorer does in Windows (more or less), the Nautilus file manager should do the trick. You can open up any of your directories to access it. If you want to start from the top in Nautilus and poke around a bit to see how Linux organizes your directories and files, you can go to Places->Computer.
